Venetian blinds are a great way to achieve privacy in the home and block the amount of light that enters the room, but unfortunately the slats do gather quite a lot of dust. To avoid the build up of dust they should be cleaned regularly.
Wiping them gently with a feather duster once a week can help to remove the dust. In addition to this they will also require a through clean in order to remove the buildup of grime, dirt and grease.
Due to their small and delicate surface size they can be tricky to clean. Whilst you are hovering it is a good idea to use the upholstery tool and go over the blind, this will be able to get into the various nooks and crannies.
Another way to clean the blind is to take a soft piece of cotton and run it across each of the slats, starting from the centre and working to the outside edges on both sides of the slat.
Unfortunately your choice of blind will affect the cleaning process. Wood blinds are much harder to maintain than other materials such as vinyl or aluminum. Wood cannot get wet, if they do then they may start to peel and warp.
Aluminum and vinyl window and French door blinds can be taken down and soaked in order to get them clean. The ideal way to clean them is to lay them in a bath and cover them with soapy water. They can be left to soak for 30 minutes or so. Wipe each slat with a cloth then rinse them and leave them to dry outside if possible.
Regular maintenance and cleaning is important. Depending on where you use your venetian blinds they will collect dirt and grime, especially if they are fitted within kitchens and children’s play areas.
